It was announced at a Cabinet briefing yesterday that the decision was taken in order to legitimise the estimated 3 million Zimbabweans living in the country illegally, many with fake South Africa identity documents.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; ">It will allow them time to obtain passports, work or study permits, as well as other documents that will permit them to be in the country legitimately. The government claims a newly qualified teacher with a four-year degree earns, on average, a total annual package of R229 790.&nbsp;</span><br></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; ">However a 46-year-old East London teacher with 15 years’ experience has shown that his total package – including housing, pension and allowances – is R146 000 a year. He takes home R9300 a month. The teacher, who asked for anonymity, has a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in maths and geography. He described the department’s claims as “rubbish”.&nbsp;</span></p><p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: normal; ">“I don’t feel appreciated by the department at all. I’m frustrated and cannot even provide for my family.” The father of three children said he had simply had enough. He has listed a R5000 bond, R2800 in car installments and R2400 a month in school fees at Stirling High School as some of his monthly payments. He said it was impossible to say how many members were involved, but explained the union had 70,000 members across the country working in this sector. Scholz said "Both parents were arrested immediately and appeared in court."
